TOTAL 8,100 illegal immigrants have been arrested in various locations in the country in the period from January to November this year.
The arrest of these illegal immigrants, due to immigration officers and other officials of protection agencies, strengthen patrols and searches in different locations.
This is explained by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of State, Major General, Projestus Rwegasira speaking to National Television (TBC) on the implementation of the various activities of the department.
Immigration officials said, they have been searching in different places including lodges, marketing and other areas in order to control illegal immigration in the country.
Referring to refugees from neighboring countries, said Tanzania has continued to receive refugees from countries of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burundi. He said up to now the number of refugees in the regions of Kagera and Kigoma has reached 270, 000.
"Many people fled to Tanzania amid clashes or problems in their country, our country is an island of peace and the cause of the other citizens see here is a safe place for them, "said Major General Rwegasira.
According to Major General Rwegasira, the Government in collaboration with the International Commission for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), are working together to ensure all refugees, have access to basic necessities and medical services.
In another development, he said the government so far has succeeded in making the verification and registration of the national identity card for civil servants more than 500,000 nationwide.
He said his Ministry continues with the preparation of issuing identity cards to the entire population with qualifications. He said the government has begun the registration and verification of the ID cards for public servants and that up to now the direction is good.
The Secretary General said the government through its bodies, have committed to ensure that tags are provided for real Tanzanians through various documents, which confirm the nationality of the person.
"Department of Immigration, Local Government and other officials to ensure national IDs are provided to the right people," he said.
Major General Rwegasira said all qualified Tanzanians have the right to free national IDs; and that the government is making efforts with all his power to make sure it ends.
"Every Tanzanian who has 18 years or older should get a national identity card, but we do this to make sure these tags are provided for real ... Tanzanians," he said.
The Secretary-General warned that the Immigration Department officials who are accused of taking bribes, as a condition of serving the citizens, to immediately stop such acts.
He said there have been complaints from the public about some officials demanding bribes documents with other documents. "I would like to take this opportunity to warn the officers as they risked their careers," he said.
